The Assassin’s Creed franchise has been rumoured to visit feudal Japan for the past few years, including a reference to the era in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. These rumours have now been put to rest during a recent interview which rejected the claims.
In an interview with Adweek Ubisoft Toronto Executive Jade Raymond, has dispelled the rumours stating the next entry would not feature the samurai age in Japan, but did acknowledge that she thinks it would be a cool idea.
“When we’re building a franchise, we’re thinking of a whole universe and how we’re developing a meta-story that could live on for many years in games and TV,” said Raymond. “If the story has nowhere to go, then you end up with the video game equivalent of The Matrix 2 or something where it’s never going to be quite as genius.”
Raymond stated that the next installment in the franchise would feature her favourite historical era, but did not give any information as to which time that could be.
The next entry in the Assassin’s Creed series has not been officially announced, but if history serves we will see a new entry in the franchise later this year. Ubisoft recently released a standalone download for Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry, which was originally released as DLC for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
