The Walking Dead continues to slowly build up to its March 31st finale, with both Woodbury and the prison preparing for a bloody war. “I Ain’t a Judas” is a slow episode, reeling us back in from the finale of last episode, the prison has been hit, they are shaken, untrustworthy and Rick is clearly still in no shape to lead. Speaking of last episode, anyone else notice they never showed the person who drove the van into the prison get killed or get out of the prison, or is that just me? Anyway…
Hershel bursts out at Rick trying to get his head back in the game, even Carl informs Rick he should step down from leadership, “You could use the rest”. This was a small but very interesting scene, both characters have taken 180 turns since last season, with Rick now the one losing his grip on reality and Carl now stepping up to pick-up the pieces. Carl’s progression continues to impress and has easily become one of my favourites on the show.
Cutting to Woodbury The Governor is preparing for war, making every kid over the age of 14 hold a weapon. Andrea having heard of the prison escapade confronts the Governor, surprisingly he lies to her face once again and she barely seems to remember this guy had an aquarium full of dead heads, but seems cool with his answer. She does however ask Milton to help her escape the prison, who informs the Governor of her plan. Now is telling the Governors side-arm aka Milton, really a good idea? Anyone could see him informing the Governor.
I will admit that the scene with Andrea and Milton capturing and “Michonning” a zombie caught me off guard, when Andrea curb-stomped the zombie, brutal. At that exact moment who appears, Tyrese and friends. Thank god the writers didn’t leave Tyrese as a cameo appearance for comic fans, this is definitely an interesting twist for the character who is now part of Woodbury. Having told the Governor he has been inside the prison, Tyrese and friends seem to be a valued asset to Woodbury. This does however leave us to speculate, with such a terrible introduction to Rick and his group, could Tyrese be against Rick for good? Though Tyrese does seem level headed and it won’t take much of the Governor’s lies for him to know better.
Andrea (Having made it to the prison in super-human timing, seriously Rick and co never spotted Woodbury after going round and round in circles for month, yet they seem so close, get it together guys). I am not a fan of Andrea and that hasn’t changed after this episode, if anything I dislike you more, just in case Andrea is reading this. Nobody was rolling out the red carpet for her arrival, which was a good sign that the group doesn’t trust anyone, that was an important point. It was great to see the whole groups interaction with Andrea, informing her of the losses the group has suffered, all the evil the Governor has been up too and more. It was also great to see T-Dog still has an influence in the show and let’s be honest, we all giggled when Michonne told Andrea she has said “nothing” to the group. Truer words never spoken.
Even after all that, Andrea seemed shocked that they wanted to kill the Governor. I really don’t get what her character is up too at the moment, these people were your friends and helped you and they don’t (From what I have seen) have an AQUARIUM OF HEADS. Carol once again shows her characters evolution through the show telling Andrea to attack the Governor after sleeping with him, very impressive Carol. Carol’s evolution has been excellent to watch and she seems to be stepping it up every week, which I love.
I personally loved the scene between Michonne and Andrea, it made me start to like Michonne’s character more after watching her ruffle Andrea’s feathers after being ditched for the Governor. I find it silly that Rick, after being so untrustworthy gave Andrea ammo, even after Glenn informed us ammo was scarce. If they wanted her to use it to kill the Governor why couldn’t she use Woodbury’s ammo? Carl was right Rick, ain’t nobody got time for you.
The episode ended in great fashion, Beth did another sing-along and even though these are corny it really sets the mood well within the prison. Rick informing Daryl he will be going for a “run” with Michonne and Carl is very interesting for next episode. Could we finally see Rick trusting Michonne? I really hope so, the interaction next week will be enough to warrant the episode your eyes.
We cut to Andrea who doesn’t go through with killing the Governor, which I believe has sealed her fate. There is no way the group will be happy to hear she hasn’t finished him off, especially if lives are lost when the ‘war’ begins, it is on you Andrea (again if you are reading).
The episode overall was something I enjoyed, nothing stand-out but it definitely continues to set the scene on both sides leading to the eventual collision of both forces.
Next episode…
From the small preview we were given for next episode, I have one theory. With Tyrese now being on Woodbury’s side, could we see the introduction of a new character? We are shown a sniper with his sights set for Rick, Carl and Michonne during their run, could this be a new character? I have speculated that this could be the introduction of Abraham (comics fans wadup), though this is a far-fetched guess, numbers are stacked up against the prison and introducing someone new into the group could help them in the end.
Either way next week looks like a very important episode for Michonne and Rick’s relationship, events leading to the season’s finale and how exactly will Merle act now that Rick has left the house?
