Update: PlayStation 4 Global Sales Numbers Revealed

Update: Sony Computer Entertainment Australia has confirmed 700,000 of the 2.1 million PlayStation 4 consoles have been purchased in Europe and Australasia, since November 29.

Michael Ephraim, Managing Director at Sony Computer Entertainment Australia and New Zealand, said, “We continue to be overwhelmed by the demand and positive sentiment Australia is showing for PlayStation 4 and our priority is get as much stock into the country as we can, as quickly as possible. For those fans eager to get their hands on a PS4, we promise there is plenty to look forward to.”

Original story: Andrew House, Sony President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment has announced the PlayStation 4 has sold over 2.1 million consoles worldwide.


The announcement was made on the PlayStation Blog and figures show that console gaming is alive and well, after many speculated this may be the last console cycle.

While speaking about the achievement House said, “It’s an impressive and record-setting accomplishment for our company and for our industry, and we couldn’t have done it without you. I want to personally thank PlayStation fans, both old and new, for your vote of confidence.”

“The best part: the PS4 journey has just begun. In addition to an incredible line-up of PS4 games from the best developers in the world, we will continue to introduce valuable new features and services to PS4 in the months and years ahead.”

These figures come after the PlayStation 4 sold over 1 million consoles in 24 hours during its November 15 launch in North America. Alongside the announcement that the PlayStation 4 became the fastest selling console ever in the UK, moving over 250,000 consoles to consumers.
