Square Enix has released a new video exploring the next generation tech involved in creating Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition.
Executive Producer Scott Amos helps breaks down the graphical improvements that have been made to Lara herself, in order to provide players a more realistic representation of Lara Croft. Lara’s face has been completely remodeled in hopes of discovering what a next generation Lara Croft would look like, alongside detailed textures that increase the detail on Lara as she becomes covered in mud, water, sweat and blood her hair has also been improved. Due to the third person nature of Tomb Raider her hair is one of the most viewed details, new effects have been added to allow her hair to sway and bob as she runs through the island of Yamatai.
Lara’s weapons have also been enhanced with an improved physics system. When you see Lara running through the environment the weapons on her back will sway and move realistically, rather than seeing them stuck in place as an object, these weapons are now a character themselves.
The added details to Lara Croft and the improved next generation graphics for the island of Yamatai will hopefully bring one of the best looking next generation experiences, and the definitive way to experience Tomb Raider when it released January 28 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
