SteamWorld Dig is the latest 3DS eShop title from Swedish developer Image & Form.

Image & Form describe SteamWorld Dig as a ” hardcore platform mining adventure”, that will deliver 12 hours of gameplay. This is also the second entry in the SteamWorld series, as SteamWorld Tower Defense was released on the Nintendo DS in 2011.

Players take control of Rusty, a lone-wolf, steam-powered cowbot who has come to an old mining town in great need. Amidst your digging to find riches, Rusty awakes an ancient evil that must be stopped.

Rusty must dig tunnels to collect rare minerals which can be exchanged for better equipment, allowing him to handle more of the terrors located underground.

SteamWorld Dig takes place in a unique 19th century time period, which has seen mankind prematurely blow itself to pieces. The little of humanity that remains is found in caves beneath the surface, while steam-powered robots control the Wild West.

SteamWorld Dig will be released on the Nintendo 3DS eShop in America, Europe and Australia on August 8 for 8.99 USD / 8.99 EUR / 11.99 AUD; while a Japan version will be released a few months after.
