Sony has released a video featuring The Playroom, showcasing the new features the DualShock 4 controller and PlayStation camera are able to create. The video introduces new augmented reality mechanics, that DualShock 4 controller and the PlayStation camera can use to create an “entertainment experience”.

  1. Light Bar – tracked by the PlayStation 4 Camera to create augmentations, like holographic panels around you on screen.

  2. Touch Pad – easy to use for scrolling and interacting in the various AR environments. Players can touch, move and play with AR characters like Asobi, an interactive flying robot who comes out to play in your living room.

  3. Motion Sensor – take a look at how a classic Air Hockey game is given a holographic visual treatment, with players stretching, twisting and bending to try to get the upper hand.

  4. Improved Dual Motors – watch how you can interact in different ways with AR Bots via the DualShock 4 controller’s Dual Motors and Speaker.

The PlayRoom video also shows how players can use multiple devices to create a “fully connected experience”. Players are able to use mobile phones, tablets or even the PlayStation Vita to draw objects and flick them into the AR world.

Sony has stated they will be “sharing more updates on the capabilities with you in the future”, so keep it set to Analog Addiction for all PlayRoom related news.
