Yesterday during the PlayStation Vita live-stream from Japan, SCEJ President Hiroshi Kawano announced a price drop for the device in Japan. The handheld Sony system is now only 19,980 Yen.

With the price drop being announced for Japan, I reached out to Sony Computer Entertainment Australia about the possibility of the system receiving a price drop in Australia.

Sony responded with the following official statement:

“The price cut announced today is for the SCE Japan region only and we have nothing to announce at this time regarding pricing within the our own region.”

Though this confirms no price drop is ready for announcement, it doesn’t deny the idea that a price drop may occur in the future. With the system debuting in Japan a few months before its global release, could our price drop also be a few months in arrears.

With the PlayStation Meeting less than 2 days away, could we possibly be given a PlayStation Vita price announcement then? Only time will tell.
