Activision has announced Skylanders SuperChargers will feature online cooperative and competitive modes.

For the first time in the Skylanders franchise players will be able to venture online with up to four players in Racing Mode. This mode will allow races on land, sea and sky circuits, featuring racing combat in online three lap races. Players can also set times on the all-new time trial leaderboards, in hopes of beating their friends or setting the fastest time worldwide.

Skylanders SuperChargers is pre-loaded with six dynamic tracks, with two tracks each based on land, sea and sky. Though the starter pack will only offer a land based vehicle, meaning the sea and sky tracks will be off limits until you separately purchase a vehicle of that class. Players can also battle locally in two player split-screen races, and voice chat will be available online between friends.

Racing against players is great, but those wanting to enjoy Adventure Mode with an online friend can now fulfill their wish. Two players can still play locally in Adventure Mode, with a third joining online, if they choose.

Nintendo recently announced they would be featuring both Bowser and Donkey Kong in Skylanders SuperChargers, with images of their character design and vehicles available here.

Skylanders SuperChargers will launch on September 20 in North America, September 24 in Australia and September 25 in New Zealand and Europe, for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo 3DS, and iPad.
