After launching just over a year ago SimCity will now feature an offline mode, which will be available as a downloadable update at no additional cost for both PC and Mac.

“We’ve listened to our players and today we are delivering against their most direct feedback with the release of the new Single-Player Mode,” said Patrick Buechner, GM of Maxis Emeryville.

“Player feedback has helped us deliver 10 major gameplay Updates that have improved the experience with better tuning, new features and free content. This is the most definitive SimCity experience whether you choose to play Online or Offline.”

When originally released SimCity was said to be designed from the ground-up with always online play designed as a core feature, after re-engineering the experience players will now be able to enjoy their city planning locally. Multiplayer will still be available for those wishing to experience the online aspects of SimCity.

The new update will download the next time player log-in to SimCity, which will also add more control over when and how their progress is saved. Analog Addiction enjoyed SimCity last year, praising the new tools on offer for simulation fans.
