Crystal Dynamics and Microsoft have revealed new information on the Rise of the Tomb Raider season pass, real-world microtransactions, multiplayer modes and digital pre-order bonuses.
Rise of the Tomb Raider‘s Creative Director Noah Hughes revealed the new information on Xbox Wire.
Rise of the Tomb Raider will throwaway the multiplayer offering that appeared in the series reboot, instead focusing for a single player campaign with multiplayer aspects. Players will be able to replay levels in the new Score Attack mode, where they can try and set the best time possible and compete with friends. But the most intriguing mode is the newly announced Remnant Resistance Mode.
Within Remnant Resistance players will be able to craft their own missions in Hub spaces, choosing objectives, enemies and more, which can then be beaten by their friends and the community to set high scores.
Remnant Resistance will also allow players to use Expedition Cards, which allow for unique features such as humourous cards like Big Head Mode, or gameplay effects like bullet resistance, with over 300 cards available at launch, with more to follow. There are two types of cards – Foil and Common. Common cards will only be available once and will have to be re-purchased with credits to use again, while Foil cards can be re-used endlessly. Players also have the ability to purchase these cards with real-world money, but this is an optional choice.
Those who pre-order Rise of the Tomb Raider digitally on the Xbox Store will also receive the Remnant Resistance Pack. The pack will include a Remnant Outfit, ancient Byzantine armour, Moon Shadow Handgun Skin, and a rare Bullet Resistance Foil Expedition Card, giving Lara extra resistance to gunfire.
Rise of the Tomb Raider will also feature a Season Pass option, which will extend the single player campaign. Included in the Season Pass is the new Endurance Mode, a new tomb to explore called The Temple of the Witcher, and a wave based mode in Cold Darkness Awakened. Alongside this content players will also have access to four months of post-launch Expedition Cards. More information on pricing and the content included in the Season Pass will be released at a later date.
Microsoft recently revealed the Xbox One Rise of the Tomb Raider Bundle, which includes a copy of both Rise of the Tomb Raider and Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition. Prepare for Lara’s return on November 10 for Xbox One, before PC and PlayStation 4 owners can purchase the game in 2016.
