Created by Dontnod Entertainment and published by Capcom, Remember Me follows a young female protagonist named Nilin as she struggles to find out who she is in a world where memories are as important as the air you breathe. The game itself takes place in a 2084 Neo-Paris, where Nilin is a memory hunter in search of the memory stolen from her by her former employer. Mesmorise is a company founded on accessing peoples memories, creating the dystopian future world where nothing is safe, not even your most cherished memories.
In the latest video released by Capcom, we get an in-depth look at the orchestral score that will accompany Remember Me. Music composer Olivier Deriviere, gives us some unique insights into the games musical ideals and what they are aiming for when it comes to engineering the sound behind the project. “We didn’t want the music to be as powerful as say for a game like Call of Duty” explains Deriviere, “We wanted to do something a little bit softer because we wanted to be closer to Nilin, her story and her emotions.”
The music behind Remember Me was heavily influenced by the artistic director, Alekski Briclot. His beautiful artwork showcasing Neo-Paris gave the musical composers a sense of direction, wanting to make the art direction and to compliment one another.
Orchestral sound is a definite strong point for the games sound, but Deriviere has explained that this beautiful sound will be “glitched” through electronic processing. This method gives reflection to the abilities at Nilin’s disposal, when she is able to glitch the world the sound will also change around it. Working on this unique electronic sound is John Kurlander, recording and mixer for music in Remember Me. “The orchestral score for this game is very different because the whole thing is composed in order to be electronically manipulated”
Deriviere makes sure to emphasize his passion to “Find ways to improve the players experience” through music. If the music in Remember Me is any indication, the game looks to combine all the necessary elements to create a futuristic world that provides a unique audio and visual experience.
Remember Me releases this May on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
