PS4 Was The Highest Selling Home Console of 2015 in Australia

Sony Computer Entertainment Australia has announced the PlayStation 4 was the highest selling home console of 2015.


The announcement was made in accordance to NPD Group Australia Data, which stated that PlayStation 4 consoles account for 59% of the total current generation console units sold, which included Xbox One, and the Nintendo Wii U.

PlayStation 4 consoles also had landmark Christmas week and month of December sales, with both being the highest performers on record in Australian PlayStation history. PlayStation 4 software also had large success, with NPD results showcasing that the Sony console is outselling its closest competitors by 82% in value and 84% in units, with PlayStation 4 software sale accounting for almost half the total console software value in 2015 (49.1%).

“As PS4 maintains its leadership position in the home console market, it is evident that the home entertainment unit has played an instrumental role in the market success of the Australian Interactive Entertainment category,”said NPD’s Luis Gil.


“We are so proud to see the performance of the entire PlayStation business continue to go from strength to strength, especially as PS4 continues to break records as the fastest selling console in Australian PlayStation history, said Michael Ephraim, Managing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia. “We are excited to welcome the inclusion of PlayStation VR, that will again elevate our proposition by pushing the boundaries of innovative technology. Our community holds an invaluable role in making PlayStation the success it is and we’re incredibly grateful and proud to enjoy these achievements with them.”


Sony hopes to continue its 2015 success with the release of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, No Man’s Sky, Horizon Zero Dawn, and the launch of PlayStation VR throughout 2016.
