Sony Computer Entertainment Australia has announced the slimmer version of the PlayStation Vita Wi-Fi model will be launching in Australia June 4, at a recommended retail price of $269.95 AUD.

Originally released in Japan in October last year, the new PS Vita slim features a sleeker and more streamlined form factor and 1GB internal memory card. The PS Vita slim system features many distinct changes from the original Vita release, such as being 15 percent lighter, 20 percent slimmer, and removes the original OLED screen and implements LCD visuals instead.

PS Vita slim owners will also be able to charge the new handheld using a micro USB cable, which is the same cable used by most smartphones, rather than the propitiatory cable that the original used. The new system also improves battery life of 4 to 6 hours of gameplay, which improves from the original 3 to 5 from the original design.
