Sony Computer Entertainment has announced the PlayStation 4 has sold through more than 18.5 million units worldwide as of January 4, 2015.

Over the holiday season retail sales were revealed to exceed 4.1 million units globally, with the PlayStation 4 platform continuing to sell faster than any previous PlayStation hardware.

Alongside the PlayStation 4 sales, it was also revealed more than 10.9 million users are now subscribed to PlayStation Plus, as of January 2, 2015. It’s worth noting that PlayStation 4 owners cannot access online multiplayer (in most cases) without a PlayStation Plus subscription, which has certainly attributed to the increased membership numbers.

“We are absolutely delighted that so many customers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as their console of choice throughout this holiday season,” said Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. “We will continue to reinforce and deliver additional value on PS4 as the best place to play, by bringing even more exciting content and by enriching our wide array of service offerings.”

PlayStation Blog recently revealed the January PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection lineup. Which will see PlayStation 4 owners gaining access to Infamous First Light and The Swapper, PlayStation 3 owners receiving DuckTales Remastered and Prototype 2, while PlayStation Vita owners able to download Woah Dave! and Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition beginning later this week on January 7.
