Randy Pitchford has denied rumours that Gearbox Software are working on Borderlands 3, instead reminded people they are focusing on the downloadable content for Borderlands 2, as they continue to support their latest game. Earlier in the week we reported some comments made by writer Anthony Burch, these comments led people to believe that a sequel may have already started production, but Pitchford confirms otherwise.
The current classes in Borderlands 2
“Chill out internet. No one has started working on a sequel to Borderlands 2,” Pitchford went to his Twitter to inform fans. “It’s fun to talk and think, but actual effort is focused on Borderlands 2 DLC, [Aliens: Colonial Marines], etc. Clean and Simple truth: The only Borderlands related game development work going on right now is for Borderlands 2. I expect that to change at some point, but that is the state of the box at this moment in time. Anthony was speaking to his thoughts. We’re all thinking about it and it’s exciting to think. But there’s no project – no actual effort.”
While no new details regarding Borderland’s 2 downloadable content has been released as yet, we do know they are still hard at work at their first class expansion, the Mechromancer. The first piece of downloadable content will be released on October 16; it will be the first time Gearbox has been able to incorporate new classes into a finished Borderlands title. Rumours also indicate more downloadable content (Of course there will be!) on the way, possibly called Torgue, but this has not been verified by Gearbox themselves.
The Mechromancer
Borderlands 2 was released late last month to great critical acclaim. Having played an entire weekend of co-op action myself, I can definitely see why. The Mechromancer launches on October 16 and will be priced at $9.99 or 800 Microsoft Points.
Expect more Borderlands 2 coverage over the next few weeks, including any more information about downloadable content coming in the future.
