Paramount & Namco to Co-Publish Star Trek Game

Paramount Pictures and Namco Bandai have signed a deal that sees both companies working together, to co-publish the launch of the Star Trek video game. Which is set to release in 2013 for all major home consoles and PC.
The game will launch this April 26, just under a month before the theatrical release of the J.J. Abrams directed Star Trek: Into The Darkness, on May 17. The game is officially licensed with CBS Consumer Products and will feature its own stand-alone story, featuring the iconic duo of Kirk and Spock as they “stop a legendary enemy race bent on conquering the galaxy”.
Paramount Pictures has also confirmed that actors Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, will reprise their roles as Captain James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock for Star Trek game,l ending their likeness and voices for the product. Alongside their talents many original cast members from the 2009 J.J Abrams Star Trek film will also be working on the project. With the likes of Simon Pegg playing Scotty, Karl Urban as Dr “Bones” McCoy, John Cho as Sulu, Zoe Saldana as Lieutenant Uhuru and Anton Yelchin as Chekov. Leaving fans of the 2009 blockbuster, feeling right at home.
Star Trek the video game was showcased in pre-alpha footage at the 2011 E3 Expo (Electronic Entertainment Exposition), with a trailer for the game also debuting during Sony’s E3 keynote.
Digital Extremes will be the wizards putting this game together from behind the curtain, known for their work on Bioshock 2, Dark Sector and The Darkness II. Brian Miller, Paramount’s Creative Executive will be overseeing the project, with Senior Vice-President of Namco Bandai Europe speaking on the partnership.“Digital Extremes’ attention to detail, and the collaboration with Paramount Pictures and the team at Bad Robot Interactive will create an authenticity that is sure to thrill Star Trek fans and gamers alike.”
The game’s original story will be written by BAFTA award winner and God of War series writers, Marianne Krawczyk in collaboration Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, who are writers and producers for the upcoming 2013 Star Trek film.
Star Trek the game is being built as the “ultimate co-op experience”, focusing on players taking control of Kirk and Spock as they travel unexplored planets, enemy battleships with their 23rd century weapons along for the ride. Australian and New Zealand consumers who pre-order the Star Trek game will receive access to the Elite Officer Oack. Offering 10 uniforms for Kirk and Spock, and also numerous weapons to use in the game.
The Star Trek game will release this April 26 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. With the Star Trek: Into the Darkness film will release this May 17.
