New Regency Partners with Ubisoft for Assassin’s Creed Movie

You know Assassin’s Creed? You know about the upcoming movie iteration? Well do you know Ubisoft has now partnered with New Regency to work on said film?
Earlier in the year Ubisoft Motion Pictures and Television Division of Ubisoft announced they were working on an Assassin’s Creed film, they will now closely work with New Regency in collaboration for the project. The screenplay is now is the beginning phase of development and is on the fast track as all the pieces of creative input come together. Ubisoft will maintain control of the key factors of the movies creative direction, yet the financial terms of the agreement have not been released.
“Ubisoft chose to partner with New Regency because they are a talent- and filmmaker-driven company, with the same independent and creative mindset that we have at Ubisoft Motion Pictures,” was the statement released by chief executive officer of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, Jean-Julien Barronnet. “Bringing aboard New Regency’s renowned production and distribution expertise while maintaining our own creative and financial flexibility ensures that Assassin’s Creed will be a high-quality film that respects the lore and fans of the video game franchise.”
The partnership comes after Michael Fassbender, one of the hottest stars in Hollywood at the moment became attached with the project. Could this be one of the main reasons of the partnership for the Assassin’s Creed film?
“We wanted to do everything we could to secure the rights to Assassin’s Creed, which Ubisoft has maintained with such care and quality over the years,” stated Brad Weston, the president and chief executive officer of New Regency. “Having just finished working with Michael on Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave (with Plan B) made the partnership even more irresistible.”
Ubisoft Motion Pictures was established in January 2011 to further extend the reach of some of Ubisoft’s most successful video game brands, by bringing them to the big screen, television and even to Web series. The Assassin’s Creed movie is not the only venture the studio has planned, with a Rabbids series in the works within a collection of 78 seven-minute CGI episodes in partnership with France Televisions and Nickelodeon. Film wise Ubisoft Motion Pictures also has two additional creative plans with a film based on two of Splinter Cell and the Ghost Recon video game franchise.
