It was announced today that Codemasters will be introducing a brand new mode for their latest F1 title, F1 2012. ‘Champions Mode‘ will allow you to take control of one of the current six F1 champions racing in the 2012 season. Codemasters stated the mode will include, “in individual race scenarios designed for quick play and instant action”. So it seems you will be able to play certain challenges in order to defeat the champions of years past.
The mode will start off with one champion unlocked and once you have completed the challenge for that driver, the next one will become unlocked until you have completed all the unique challenges. The six drivers playable in the mode are Kimi Räikkönen, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso and then the legendary Michael Schumacher.
For example the Räikkönen challenge will have the player join as Kimi’s teammate at Spa Francorchamps. You will start with fresh tyres out of the pit, while the rest of the drivers are on worn rubber. Given three laps to then overtake Kimi to end the race and unlock the next challenge, seems like the mode will rely highly on quick bursts of Formula 1 action.
‘Champions Mode‘ will be playable from August 15th to 19th at the Gamescom event in cologne, Germany. Ahead of its September release on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
