Nordic Games has released some comparison screenshots from the Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition.

For those unaware, Gunfire Games is bringing Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with every piece of DLC, alongside improved graphics, reworked balancing and loot distribution, all running at 1080p resolution.

The new screenshots showcase images from the original release, as well as what those images now look like on the next current generation version.

“When we thought about what we wanted to do for the “Deathinitive” edition of Darksiders 2, obviously we wanted to run in native 1080p and increase the resolution of the textures,” said Design Director at Gunfire Games John Pearl. “Additionally, we decided to rewrite the renderer to be physically based like a lot of other current generation game engines.

“What this means visually is metal, leather, stone and skin look and respond to light as you would expect them to in the real world. This new rendering method meant we revisited every texture and surface in the game, reworking and re-authoring them for the new renderer. To take full advantage of these texture changes, we’ve also gone back and relit the entire game.”

Darksiders 2 originally released in August, 2012 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, while also releasing as a launch title for the Nintendo Wii U. While Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition is scheduled to release sometime in 2015.
