‘SMITE’ World Championships to Offer Over 2.5 Million Dollar Prize Pool

Hi-Rez Studios, the developer of the action MOBA SMITE has announced the SMITE World Championships broke the 2 million dollar prize pool, with the total pool current sitting at over 2.5 million dollars.
The total prize pool for the SMITE World Championships is the third largest in eSports prize pool history, edging out the $2.14 million which was offered by League of Legends’ 2014 World Championship.
The total prize pool was entirely crowdfunded by Odyssey, which is an in-game promotion that sells exclusive content to SMITE players. A portion of each Odyssey purchase goes straight into the prize pool that eight teams from around the world will battle to win during the SMITE World Championships, which begins January 9 -11 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta.
SMITE fans in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland who wish to view the Gran Final match on a big screens are able to attend SMITE World Championships viewing parties, with more information available here.
