Everything To Know About ‘Batman: Arkham Knight’

After weeks of speculation it was officially announced yesterday that Batman: Arkham Knight exists and will release later this year.
Over the past 24 hours a plethora of details have been released for the upcoming title. Since the announcement was made small pieces of information has frequently been released, that piece together some substantial information of what we can expect from Arkham Knight.

Who is developing Batman: Arkham Knight?
Rocksteady will be developing Arkham Knight. They will be returning after developing the first two Arkham titles in the series, Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. The Arkham series received two entries in the franchise last year in the form of Batman: Arkham Origins and Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate. Which were developed by WB Games Montreal and Armature Studios respectively.
When does Batman: Arkham Knight take place?
Batman: Arkham Knight will follow the shocking events of Batman: Arkham City, and will pick up one year after the titles conclusion.
Are players able to control any of Batman’s array of vehicles?
Rocksteady announced the inclusion of the Batmobile, which will allow players to have full control as they drive around Gotham City. The city streets have also been widened to allow players to utilise the Batmobile with its greatest efficiency.
What unique abilities will be included with the Batmobile?
The Batmobile will feature immobilizing missiles, it can smash through most objects, can be summoned at any time, and can eject Batman so he can explore the city using his grapple claw and gliding abilities.
How big is Gotham City?
Rocksteady has confirmed Gotham City will be five times bigger than what we experienced in Batman: Arkham City. The enlarged city has been made easier to explore with the inclusion of the Batmobile.
Will any old villains will return?
From the announcement trailer we known Scarecrow, Two-Face, Penguin and Harley Quinn will return. However it was revealed Riddler Challenges will take advantage of the Batmobile, which means Riddler will also make an appearance.
Will any new villains appear?
Executive Director Sefton Hill stated Batman will face a “formidable foe”. In the interview with Game Informer the new villain was described as a “militarised” version of the Dark Knight and will feature a signature Arkham A on his chest. This new villain will join with the previously mentioned villains.
Will Kevin Conroy return as Batman?
Kevin Conroy will officially return to take the reins of the Dark Knight himself.
Will Arkham Knight be the end of the series?
Rocksteady Game Director Sefton Hill, explained that this would be the final conclusion to the Arkham series.
“This is the natural end for the story. We really want to go out in style,” said Hill. While GAME also details Arkham Knight as being the “explosive Finale in the Batman: Arkham Series”.
Who will write Batman: Arkham Knight?
According to Game Informer Paul Dini, the writer behind both Arkham Asylum and Arkham City will not be returning. Rocksteady will rely on its own writers to come up with the story for Arkham Knight. Crysis and Killzone writer Martin Lancaster has been recruited to be part of the writing team.
Will multiplayer return?
No. In an interview with Game Informer, Rocksteady Game Director Sefton Hill confirmed multiplayer will not return, after it debuted in Arkham Origins.
“This is a single-player game. There is no multiplayer Right at the start this was our vision. It’s going to take all of our effort for all of this time. We don’t have the time to do multiplayer.” Hill instead wants “to focus on making the best single-player experience we can.”
What platforms will Batman: Arkham Knight release for?
Batman: Arkham Knight will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
No current generation release? Wii U?
Speaking to Game Informer, Rocksteady’s Executive Producer Sefton Hill explained the decision to avoid current generation hardware was made early on.
“Obviously you see a lot of games that are cross-gen, and they feel a bit reined in because of that. Because we were able to make that decision quite early, we were able to be more ambitious with the design,” Hill said.
There has been no word of a Wii U release. With the recent announcement that the latest DLC for Arkham Origins would not release for Wii U, one could assume Wii U will also be left out.
Are there any pre-order incentives?
Pre-ordering Batman: Arkham Knight will give players access to four exclusive Challenge Maps, allowing players to take control of Harley Quinn. Quinn will feature unique weapons, gadgets and abilities.
While Walmart is also offering an exclusive Prototype Batmobile. Which will feature a unique design and exclusive gameplay features.
What improvements has next-generation hardware allowed?
It was confirmed more than 50 on-screen characters can be present on screen at the one time. There is no word if Gotham City will be populated with civilians, or if the city will absent of innocent bystanders like previous games.
Has a release date been announced?
Though no official release date has been announced, Gamestop is advertising Arkham Knight will release on October 14. UK listings however list Arkham Knight as “Coming 2014”, until there is anything official take this information with a grain of a salt.
